Radiography (or “x rays”) is used to augment our physical exam and soundness/lameness findings. It is often the next step to further diagnose what may be wrong (or not wrong) with your horse. Radiology is most often used for detecting bony changes or remodeling, such as laminitis, degenerative joint disease, bone chips, and fractures. The benefits to digital radiology include being able to send images to referral veterinarians, specialists, and your farrier via email or CD.
ECO offers digital radiology in two different modalities: Computed Radiography (CR) and Digital Radiography (DR). There are multiple differences between the two systems. The primary difference is DR allows us to visualize our radiographs at the farm whereas CR must be processed at the clinic (like developing film) prior to viewing the digital image. ECO has three DR systems and is capable of having four of their veterinarians using CR equipment at various locations at the same time.
