Neonatal Care

Return to Reproduction

After over a year of planning, working, and waiting, your new foal has finally arrived.  Whether on your farm or ours we want your foal to have the best start possible. When the foal is 12-24 hours old we perform a thorough physical on both mare and foal, looking for early signs of trouble in both.  We test the foal’s blood to make sure enough antibodies were passed between mare and foal.  We examine the placenta to make sure it was passed completely.  A new foal is quite vulnerable and can fade very quickly.  Our veterinarians have many years of experience taking care of foals, and we enjoy working with clients to make sure they have happy healthy babies, so call us immediately if you have any concerns about your newest arrival.
